Gill Lice

Went out for a fish yesterday and had an awesome day bottom bouncing for more
Staging Steelhead off the shores of Lake Ontario! I came across something pretty gross and harmful to the fish, Called "Gill Lice". It is a trout specific parasite, and primarily the female lice that attaches to the gills and parasitizes the fishes blood stream. People say that it is often related to stressful conditions such as low water and warm water temps. The lice is usually only present on wild fish and not hatchery fish because in the hatchery there is more flowing water and it doesn't support the parasite's life cycle well. Pretty gross eh? I hope not to ever see this again as it is harmful to the fish. They don't get as much oxygen.

Not so Spring like conditions

What an awesome evening, Me and my good friend Danny headed out for some more spring staging steelhead! Conditions were awesome, but didn't feel like spring what so ever! Super cold out today with a little bit of snow. Lake was calm and the bit was ON! we hit a ton of fish, and had a bunch of laughs. Can't wait to get out after school again tomorrow. MAN I LOVE FISHING!

Bottom bouncing for Staging Steelhead

Was definitely quite the weekend... I'm not a huge bottom bouncer fan myself, as i like to float fish in the rivers, but man this was a TON of fun. Fished all day Saturday and Sunday. Had a late start to the day on Saturday and managed to land a few nice fish, including my biggest buck of the year! Was a super windy day, but my FISHBUM soft shell jacket blocked the wind and kept me warm for the day. Saturday night i spent a while tying some bags for all day sunday. Me and my good friend Danny headed down to the lake for first light and it was very slow. We figured that the fish were gonna stay pretty lethargic until the sun came out and warmed everything up a little bit. So we tried something totally different but it didn't produce any fish for us. We went back to lake later around 530 and the fish were pretty active! Lots of fish where landed, it was a super cold night but well worth it. Soon enough the ice is going to thaw and these staging Steelhead are going to go on there journey up the river to spawn. ><>
